Online therapy & EMDR · California

Steady support for life’s hardest chapters

I help adults living with cancer and people healing from trauma find steadier ground, from wherever they are in California.

You don’t have to carry this alone

Whether you’ve just heard a diagnosis, are in the middle of treatment, or are living with what happened long ago, therapy can be a place to slow down, be honestly heard, and find a way forward that feels like your own.

Living with cancer

Support through diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, including the fear, grief, uncertainty, and changes to identity and relationships that cancer can bring.

Healing from trauma

Gentle, paced work with past or recent trauma, so painful memories can lose their grip and you can feel safer in your body and your life.

What we can work on together

Individual therapy

One-on-one sessions shaped around what you need right now, whether that’s coping skills, space to process, or support with a specific challenge.

EMDR therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a well-researched approach that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming. It can be done effectively online.

Candace Hamann, LCSW, smiling, standing outdoors against a warm stone wall

Hi, I’m Candace

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a background in oncology social work, where I support people and families facing cancer. I’ve seen how much it matters to have someone who can sit with the hard parts and help you find your footing again.

I’m trained in EMDR and bring a warm, collaborative style to our work. I’m also a Reiki Master Practitioner, and that experience informs the calm, whole-person presence I try to offer every client.

Frequently asked questions

Can therapy and EMDR really work online?

Yes. Research on online therapy has generally found it can be as effective as meeting in person for many concerns, and EMDR can be adapted for video sessions. Many people find it easier to open up from the comfort of home, especially during cancer treatment when travel is tiring.

Do I need to live in California?

You need to be physically located in California during each session, because my license is issued by the State of California. If you travel out of state, let me know and we can plan around it.

Who do you work with?

Adults who are living with cancer, at any point from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship, and adults healing from trauma, whether it happened recently or long ago.

What is EMDR, and do I have to talk about every detail?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming. You don’t have to describe every detail of what happened, and we go at a pace that feels manageable for you.

What happens in the free 15-minute consultation?

It’s a short, no-pressure call. You can share a little about what you’re looking for, ask questions about how I work, and we’ll see whether we’re a good fit. There’s no obligation to continue.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions are $175 for 50 minutes. I keep a limited number of sliding-scale spots for people who need a reduced fee, so please ask if cost is a concern.

Do you take insurance?

I’m an out-of-network provider, so I don’t bill insurance directly. If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, I can give you a superbill (a detailed receipt) to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. It’s a good idea to check with your plan about your out-of-network coverage. You can also ask me for a Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs at any time.

Is Reiki part of therapy sessions?

I’m a Reiki Master Practitioner, and that background shapes the calm, whole-person presence I bring to my work. Therapy sessions themselves focus on talk therapy and EMDR.

What if I’m in crisis?

This practice doesn’t provide emergency services. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911.

Ready to talk?

Reaching out is often the hardest step. Send me a note and I’ll get back to you, usually within one to two business days.
